The annual Los Angeles Times Festival of Books will open on Saturday April 30, 2011 from 10am – 6pm and on Sunday, May 1, 2011 from 10am – 5pm.

This years the festival will be held at University of Southern California downtown campus in Los Angeles.

The Festival of Books will includes nearly 300 exhibitor booths representing booksellers, publishers, literacy and cultural organizations.

The exhibitor sell and promote books and book-related merchandise and distribute related information.

Many of the independent booksellers participating in the festival represent the diverse ethnic and cultural communities of Los Angeles and sell books of different languages and genres.

Islam International Publications (IIP) and the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community (AMC) of greater Los Angeles area is one of the exhibitor at the Festival.

IIS plans to exhibit, along with hundreds of their book titles, some seventy translations of the Holy Quran prepared by AMC worldwide.

Anwer Mahmood Khan, a member of the executive body of AMC - USA emphasizes the importance why the community is exhibiting the Holy Quran in a large variety of translations and commentaries.

"There are ignorant people out there who are either interested in disrespecting the Holy Quran by burning the book or there are those who are killing innocents people because of it," Khan said referring to the Florida pastor who burned a copy of the Holy Quran last month and the resulting killing of UNO workers in Afghanistan by the extremist Muslims.

Anwer Khan says that such acts are "deplorable, irrespective of the reasoning."

"Our [AMC] stance is to highlights the beauties of the Holy Quran instead of displaying any extreme and violent reactions," Khan Said

"Furthermore, the Holy Quran translations are the hallmark of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community and we are proud of this work. We plan to use this opportunity to showcase our collection," Khan added.

The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books began in 1996 with a simple goal: to bring together the people who create books with the people who love to read them. The festival was an immediate success and has become the largest and most prestigious book festival in the country, attracting more than 140,000 book lovers each year.

People of all ages from across Southern California and even other parts of the country attend the festival which is a free public event, and includes exciting author events, storytelling, cooking demonstrations and poetry readings.

The 2011 Festival of Books date was moved to accommodate the Easter holiday. The Festival of Books will return to the last full weekend in April for 2012, the organizers have anounced.
