FOLLOWING tensions over the burning of the Koran, members of a Huddersfield Muslim group haves put their holy book on show to help increase tolerance.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Association spoke to people about their holy book and let them see its importance.
The move comes after an American Christian group burnt the Koran. More than 20 people, including United Nations staff, have been murdered in Afghanistan by Muslims angry about the incident.
Huddersfield South president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Fatih Ul Haq said: “We are fortunate to live in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic and multi-religious society.
“Sadly, it is this very feature of diversity that can be used to cause division and enmity among us. It is important that we should never allow this to take root.”
Members of the association were at Huddersfield Town Hall on Saturday to speak to people about its significance to them and its teachings.
Mr Haq added: “It is hoped that through this exercise we shall be able to dispel many of the misconceptions that may have arisen about the Koran and its teachings.”
The Mayor of Kirklees, Clr Andrew Palfreeman, and Colne Valley MP Jason McCartney attended the event.
