Humanity First The Gambia Branch Institute of Information Technology recently held a one-day capacity building retreat at the Joint Officers Mess, Kotu.

The objective of the one-day retreat was for the IT Centre to review its operations and courses with a view to coming up with new and improved ways of serving the students.

In his opening remarks, the chairman, Humanity First The Gambia, Kawsu Kinteh, stressed the importance of the training, as matters discussed would determine the way forward in achieving the desired objectives of the centre.

"The success of Humanity First IT Centre lies in the collective and tireless contributions of the staff and volunteers," he emphasised. He therefore urged the participants to contribute positively during the deliberations.

Kinteh asserted that Humanity First IT Centre is the leading IT training provider in The Gambia as far as enrolment statistics are concerned. He urged the staff and volunteers to ensure that the targeted standards are upheld and never compromised.


He reminded the participants that Humanity First The Gambia Branch is a non-religious, non-political and non-tribal organization whose objectives among others are, to relieve sufferings caused by natural disasters and human conflict; promote peace and understanding, based upon mutual tolerance and respect; and strengthen people's capacities to help themselves.


Delivering his statement, Omar Manjang the head of Assessment and Certification Unit of the National Training Authority (NTA), explained that the NTA was enacted by an Act of Parliament in 2002 to standardise the Gambia Skills Qualification commonly known as GSQ.

The training authority he went on, is the body responsible for the accreditation and registration of vocational and skills training centres in the country.

"The NTA also looks at the quality of training providers and trainers, among other things," he added. He emphasized the need for training centers including Humanity First IT to comply with all regulations of the authority, adding that the NTA is fully aware of the enrolment statistics of the centre and requests that the management continues with the good training and services it is offering to people.

The IT director of Humanity First Gambia, Sainey Jarjou, in his statement thanked the chairman, board of trustees, staff and volunteers for their support of Humanity First institute. He said that trainings and meetings of this nature will always continue as they mould and develop individuals to perform better in the execution of their jobs.

Jarjou hailed the staff and volunteers for the wonderful services they are rendered and encourage them to continue with the hard work. The National Training coordinator at Humanity First Institute of Technology, Bocarr Bah, thanked the participants for their readiness to answer at all times when ever a call is made.

He said the training centre will continue in its drive to offer courses to the community at a very affordable cost and in a conducive learning environment.
