Idris Aziz is a junior at Harris Stowe State University. He fell in love with Optometry when he began a biology research project in his major. He has been pursuing his passion for eye care ever since. Idris has written research papers and made presentations at conferences on the anatomy of the eye. This summer when the opportunity became available to go to Chichicastenango, Guatemala to offer support to cataract surgeons, Aziz jumped at the opportunity. Idris demonstrated leadership and sacrifice in travelling Guatemala for a week. The team he worked with performed cataract surgeries and eye examinations.  Aziz expresses humility and gratitude for the people and the experience. He writes:

“All praise belongs to God for permitting me to be a witness to such beauty in the field of work, in the country, the people, and in helping others merely for the sake of service.”

Aziz is a fourth generation Muslim whose great grandfather became a Muslim in the 1950’s. He serves as the local President of the youth chapter of the Ahmadiyya Youth Organization. Idris embodies an all American spirit of leadership and sacrifice.
