HUNDREDS are expected to attend the annual Australia Day celebrations organised by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association of Australia on Sunday, January 29.

The program from 2pm to 4pm at their impressive Marsden Park mosque will include performances by children, tours of the complex, guest speakers and refreshments.

Several MPs and dignitaries will attend the afternoon celebrations, said the organisers.

Australia Day celebrations spokesman Mahmood Ahmad, welcoming residents for the event, said it has grown each year.

“To us, this day is truly about celebrating what’s great about Australia and being an Australian,” he said.

“It is about reflecting on what we have achieved and are proud of in this great nation, and is about re-committing to making this nation even better place for the future.

“The AMAA identifies itself with all the great things about Australia.”

The organisation’s secretary Mirza Ramzan Sharif said the main theme this year is ‘Love of the country is part of faith’, saying they will speak of their love for Australia and their responsibilities in the community.

“Our organisation is very much involved in community activities throughout the year and like to promote peace and harmony, specially as a handful of people have tainted the face of Islam.

“Everyone is welcome to join our Australia Day celebrations.

“The reason we have chosen Sunday is that more people can enjoy the celebrations as there are so many activities on Australia Day itself.”
