Relief Teams Distribute Emergency Aid to Hundreds of Typhoon Washi Victims

Humanity First – a disaster relief organization, is currently assisting the victims of recent floods in Philippines. Humanity First volunteers travelled from Manila and Zamboanga City to help the victims in Cagayan de Oro. The relief operation supported from Canada involved distribution of relief goods to more than 400 families in the affected areas. The emergency relief package consisted of food rations and other supplies including mats, blankets, water, milk, can food, pasta, and juices.

Typhoon Washi and massive flash flooding in two cities of northern Mindanao, a province of Philippines has caused loss of lives and severe damage to the infrastructure. The death toll from the storm is over 1000.  Typhoon Washi has forced thousands of flood survivors to seek refuge in evacuation centers which are now jam packed leaving countless victims staying under fly overs and other unreliable shelters.

Our teams distributed the relief goods in those affected areas where victims could not find shelter in evacuation centers because of overcrowding. The goods were bought from Zamboanga City because of the scarcity of food and water in Cagayan de Oro. The beneficiaries were highly grateful for receiving the life saving supplies.

One of the strengths of Humanity First is its strong volunteer network around the world. Within hours, we were able to contact our local volunteers in Manila and immediately start the relief work. Our volunteers travelled for more than 12 hours to reach the victims and assist them.

Humanity First has recently carried out large scale relief operations in Haiti, Pakistan, Japan and North East Africa to assist victims of natural disaster and poverty. In Canada, Humanity First continues to successfully run Feed a Family and Feed the homeless programs.
