THE Ahmadiyya Movement has identified poor leadership as responsible for many of the country’s woes.
At the one-day M.B.A Ameen Foundation Policy Dialogue Series titled: ‘The Removal of Fuel Subsidy and the Leadership Question’, speakers noted that selfishness, on the part of past leaders, brought the country to its present state of underdevelopment.
Executive Director, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), Tokunbo Mumuni, bewailed loss of confidence in government due to rampant corruption. “All these problems were caused by our leaders. My sincere opinion is that we have never had committed leaders over time,” he said.
On his part, Missioner Rabiu Uthman, outlined what leadership entails, saying: “To be a leader, you must be sensitive to the plight of people you rule, willing to formulate policies that would add value to the society and listen to suggestions from followers.”
Personal Assistant to the Lagos State Commissioner for Transport, Shina Loremikan, noted that government could only restore confidence to Nigerians, if it sanctions officials indicted in the fuel subsidy saga.
At the M.B.A Ameen Resource Centre, Ojokoro, Lagos, venue of the event, the Movement reiterated need for prayers, and the introduction of leadership training into the curriculum of schools.
