Pakistan: Shame on the Punjab ruling party leader for maligning services of Sir Zafrulla Khan

Sir Zafarullah represented the country in the United Nations General Assembly as the head of its delegation and soon emerged as the most excellent spokesperson for the causes of the Muslim world and other countries.

This refers to PML-N leader Captain Safdar’s speech at the Istekam-e-Pakistan Conference in Lala Musa.

Not only were his comments about Imran Khan’s private life unethical, some of the other things he uttered were aimed at instigating hatred against a minority community in a country where it is already perennial. Captain Safdar, who has little to his credit in his service of Pakistan, had the audacity to say that “the first conspiracy was hatched against Pakistan when Sir Zafarullah Khan was made foreign minister.” In case he doesn’t know, Sir Zafarullah Khan was made foreign minister by Mr Jinnah himself, who was a staunch proponent of pluralism and tolerance. Did Safdar mean to say that Jinnah conspired against Pakistan? Hardly two months after Pakistan’s creation, Sir Zafarullah represented the country in the United Nations General Assembly as the head of its delegation and soon emerged as the most excellent spokesperson for the causes of the Muslim world and other countries.

In October 1947 he delivered a speech on the Palestinian issue in the UN General Assembly, which is one of the strongest cases ever presented in support of the Palestinian cause to date. Similarly, his speech on the Kashmir issue in the UN Security Council is considered the most comprehensive presentations of the Kashmir issue on any international stage and resulted in the materialisation of UN resolutions on Kashmir. As Pakistan’s representative to the UN Security Council he spoke for the liberation of Libya, Northern Ireland, Eritrea, Somalia, Sudan, Tunisia, Morocco, Indonesia and occupied Kashmir. How many can rival this towering statesman? Captain Safdar should be ashamed of blatantly maligning a great Pakistani statesman on the basis of his beliefs and faith. In the same address, Captain Safdar supported a convicted murderer – Mumtaz Qadri. Captain Safdar owes the nation an apology for such crude and bigoted statements. The PML-N should also take action against him.
