KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) adjourned the blasphemy remarks issue proceedings until March 31 and fixed it for arguments at 12:00 afternoon.

Former Sindh home minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza has been involved in the case by Sindh Industries Minister Abdul Rauf Siddiqui. A single bench of SHC, comprising Justice Mohammad Ali Mazhar, proceeded the petition submitted by Siddiqui, seeking registration of first information report (FIR) under the ‘blasphemy law’ against Mirza.

On Friday, Asim Mansoor Khan appeared before the court on behalf of Mirza’s counsel Anwar Mansoor Khan and submitted Vakalatnama as the counsel of Mirza.
He stated that Anwar Mansoor was not available due to his appearance before the Supreme Court of Pakistan in Islamabad. Asim requested the court to adjourn the hearing by any other date. The court granted his plea and adjourned the hearing until March 31.

It is pertinent to mention here that Siddiqui had filed a petition before the SHC against Mirza. He stated that Mirza issued blasphemous remarks against Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) during a press conference on October 9, 2011. He prayed to the court to take action against him. Additional District and Sessions Judge, Karachi (South), Abdul Razzaque, withheld a similar type of application filed by Siddiqui pertaining to blasphemous remarks case against Mirza till SHC gives decision on the this petition. asghar azad
