Jakarta - A mosque belonging to the Ahmadiyya Muslim community in Tasikmalaya regency, West Java, was burned down early this morning by a mob, it was reported by KBR68H in Jakarta.
The mosque was empty when it was set ablaze by the mob, said the Ahmadiyya regional administrator Ahmad Taufik.
Although there was no loss of human life, however, a number of holy books and supplies burned down with the mosques, Ahmad Taufik said.
"Several copies of the Holy Qur'āns as well as many commentaries of the Holy Quran and numerous other books were burned in the fire inside the mosque,” the Ahmadiyya representative further said. “Pulpit suffered damaged from the fire and most of the glass also broke.”
“Thank God that adjacent residences did not catch fire as the mosque is attached to the surrounding homes. Otherwise it could have helped trigger the entire village to catch fire.”
“We immediately cleared the area with mutual cooperation with the residents here," Ahmad Taufik further added.
Ahmad Taufik of the Ahmadiyah Salawu, Asep District Board added the congregation was very worried when the incident took place; however, they are now relatively calm.
Currently, local police are still keeping a watch at the scene.
There are about 30 Ahmadis who lives in District Salawu.
