USA: Ambassador of Ghana to the United States calls on Khalifa of Islam

Ambassador Agyekum spoke of his long standing ties with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in the United States and said he had visited the Baitur Rahman Mosque on a number of occasions.

"Your Community promote peace in our country, and have invested in social programmes that broaden the horizons of our youth"

On 25 June 2012, His Excellency, Daniel Ohene Agyekum, Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, called on the World Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad at the Baitur Rahman Mosque in Maryland.

Ambassador Agyekum spoke of his long standing ties with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in the United States and said he had visited the Baitur Rahman Mosque on a number of occasions.

The Ambassador also spoke about the wide array of peace initiatives and humanitarian projects undertaken by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in Ghana.

He said:

“Your Holiness, you and your Community promote peace in our country; you have invested in social programmes that broaden the horizons of our youth and make them better citizens. And so it is a real means of happiness for me to meet with you today.”

Thereafter, His Holiness and the Ambassador shared fond memories of Ghana and its rich culture. His Holiness said that since being elected as Khalifa he had returned on two occasions to visit the country where he lived for eight years between 1977 and 1985.

The Ambassador spoke of Ghana’s appreciation of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat. He said:

“I, our current Government and indeed all previous Ghanaian Governments, as well as the people of Ghana, truly appreciate your leadership and the work of your Community in all spheres of life.

When you come to Ghana you enlighten not just the people of Ghana but in fact millions of people across the region… And so I wish to express my gratitude to Your Holiness for meeting with me and sharing your wisdom with me.”

The meeting ended as His Holiness affectionately thanked the Ambassador for visiting.
