Dozens of members of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) Cianjur regency, West Java, attacked Ahmadiyah mosque at Jalan Muwardi, Cianjur earlier this afternoon, the local media has reported.
The FPI mob attempted to forcibly enter the Al Ghofur Ahmadiyah mosque but was blocked by police and military guards, who swiftly close the gate of the mosque.
Unable to get into the mosque, VIVANews reported, the members of the FPI started shaking the fence, yelling "Disband Ahmadiyya".
FPI members pounded their sticks on the fence of the mosque, the mosque sign and the mosque roof.
After holding dialog with the police, the mob leaders eventually left the Ahmadiyya mosque.
Secretary of FPI in Cianjur, Acep Lukman, said they carried out their action in public interest to protect the [sanctity of] Ramadhan.
“For FPI,” Lukman claimed, “this action is a step to protect Muslims during Ramadan. “
"What we did this afternoon is an appeal to the public and businesses to protect Muslims during Ramadan," Lukman further told local news reporters.
He claimed that FPI action against Ahmadiyah has been carried out in coordination with the Police in Cianjur.
