CHINO: For a month, practicing Muslims have fasted in observance of the month of Ramadan.
The fast began July 21 and will end on Sunday.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community's Baitul Hameed Mosque at 11941 Ramona Ave., Chino, hosted a full schedule of fasting-related events, including daily breaking of the fast just after sunset, followed at 8:30 p.m by Maghrib, the fourth of Islam's five daily prayers.
Imam Shamshad A. Nasir of Baitul Hameed Mosque in Chino said Muslims look forward to Ramadan each year because it provides an opportunity to rededicate themselves to their faith and work on improving themselves physically, morally and spiritually.
Nasir said fasting in Islam isn't only about not eating, although going hungry does generate empathy for those less fortunate who go hungry due to economic as opposed to religious reasons.
Before the holy month ends, the fast culminates with the three-day holiday of Eid al-Fitr.
