Ahmadiyya Times Note: The members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community are often subjected to hate-based violence in many parts of the world. In this news, however, there is no report if this was an incident of a deliberate hate-violence, random violence, or due to a private feud. As more details will emerge, the readers will be brought up-to-date.

A stabbing Wednesday night that claimed the life of Muzaffar Goraya has left a family devastated and a tight-knit Vaughan community in shock.

Goraya, who was 22, dreamed of becoming a police officer. After graduating from Humber College, he did the policing test but was told to reapply in two years, said his uncle, Naseer Goraya.

“He was very humble, very gentle, family oriented and very friendly,” said Naseer. “It was a real shock to the family — a real shock to the community.”

Muzaffar Goraya and his cousin, Mojeeb Goraya, 27, were stabbed after an altercation around 11:50 p.m. Wednesday, on a street located directly across from the mosque they attend.

“Both youth are known to be good men of the community. Active and nice young men,” said Ahmadiyya community president Lal Malik. “It has come as an utter shock.”

Both cousins worshipped at the Ahmadiyya Muslim community mosque in the Vaughan suburb of Maple. Muzaffar lived within walking distance of where his life was taken. The subdivision surrounding the mosque where Muzaffar lives is known as Peace Village.

The stabbing took place on the opposite side of Jane St., on Colombo Cres., a street lined with prim, freshly built suburban homes with SUVs parked in the driveways.

Fateh Tahseen, 17, was sitting in his family’s house on Colombo Cres. when his Doberman, Paco, started barking. Then there was a frantic knock at the door.

Tahseen opened it to see a man bleeding from his stomach.

“This guy just came banging on our door,” said Tahseen. “He kept saying, ‘Call 911, call an ambulance,’ ”

The man was already on the phone with 911, Tahseen said, but was too shaken up to talk and handed the phone to him.

The second victim, who the injured man told Tahseen was his cousin, lay on the road.

“I just saw his body twitching,” said Tahseen. The operator told Tahseen to check the pulse of the man on the ground, but police arrived as he walked over.

Muzaffar and Mojeeb were rushed to Sunnybrook Hospital. Muzaffar succumbed to his injuries.

Mojeeb was severely wounded, and remains in hospital in serious but stable condition.

On Thursday, the porch of Tahseen’s suburban house remained spattered with blood as police continued their investigation.

Nema Mansouri, 28, is wanted by police in connection with the incident on Colombo Cres. He is considered armed and dangerous.

Malik said that he did not recognize Mansouri’s name other than from reports about the incident.

Community members flooded to the Goraya family home Thursday afternoon to visit and grieve together.

“(Muzaffar’s father) is devastated. We are offering our condolences to the family and we are praying that Allah may grant them patience and solace with this tragic loss of life,” said Malik.
