RAWALPINDI: Amad, the complainant and nephew of the landowner of Rimsha’s residence, mysteriously disappeared since the first information report (FIR) against the girl was lodged.
Khalid Chishti, the prayer leader at the Jamia Masjid Aminia, also accepted he had delivered a message from the mosque at Mera Jafar four months ago that Christians inhabiting the area should leave the place. He refuted the claim that Rimsha was mentally unstable, as he said the girl neither abused nor mistreated anyone which showed she was not mentally ill.
But a woman living in the neighbourhood of Rimsha testified that Rimsha suffered from a mental disorder.
These facts were revealed in the flagship programme of Geo TV, Capital Talk. Minister of State for National Harmony Akram Masih Gill, religious scholar Maulana Sharif Hazarvi and human rights activist Hina Jilani participated in the programme.
Questions were raised in Capital Talk on the basis of shown facts in the programme, such as the FIR against Rimsha, her medical report and some other facts.Hina Jilani said that Rimsha could not be sentenced in this case due to her age and mental disability. She also mentioned that the facts were concealed in the FIR lodged against Rimsha. “There is something more in this case than Rimsha’s incident,” she said.
Hina Jilani also advised not to bring the case under the cover of religion and that the Constitution of Pakistan gives protection to minorities. She said that Article 295 (a)(b)(c) could not be implemented in Rimsha’s case. She said the minorities living in Pakistan have future here and this is their country.
“We all have the same respect for the Holy Quran as we do have for Holy Bible,” said Akram Gill. “Christians protested against Terry Jones action of defiling the Holy Quran, and also against the caricatures of the Holy Prophet published in a Norway’s paper,” he added.
Anchorperson Hamid Mir asked Akram Gill was it not a positive development that the prayer leader referred the case to police immediately to avoid disturbance. To this, he replied that surely it is a positive development and he applauded this move that the situation did not aggravate. Gill further said that Pakistan is also his country and of all the minorities living here, and Christians also offered sacrifices for the creation this country.
Maulana Sharif Hazarvi declared that Rimsha could not be sentenced on the basis of the FIR, as the FIR held no strong ground to convict her. He also doubted the situation that led to the act of Rimsha. He elaborated that someone might have taken advantage of her mental health and given her the papers she was unaware of. Hence, he advocated investigation as to how had she gotten those papers. He also asked for protecting the rights of minorities, as they were also the citizens of Pakistan like the Muslims.
Hamid Mir talked to the prayer leader of Jamia Masjid Aminia who said that Rimsha’s mother had asked him to forgive her as her daughter burnt the holy pages although the mother stopped her but she continued. As the people had gathered there and tried to beat them, he called the police and handed over the matter to police which avoided chaos.

He also stated that some witnesses changed their statements, as some of them were property dealers, who were concerned whom they would rent their homes to.
A shopkeeper owning a shop beside Rimsha’s home also said the Muslims living in the area had already constituted a committee to expel Christians from the area. A Christian woman living in the area showed deep concern about finding a residence in any other area as the notice had already been served on her family to vacate the house.
