Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Connecticut in collaboration with the American Red Cross held a blood drive as part of the second annual nationwide "Muslims for Life" campaign (www.muslimsforlife.org) in remembrance of victims of 9/11 at its 11th anniversary with the aim to collect 11,000 pints of blood and to help save as many as 33,000 lives and to reiterate the message that Islam values the sanctity of life. This blood drive was held on Saturday, Sept. 1, at Baitul Aman (House of Peace) Mosque at 410 Main St., South Meriden. This was the fourth blood drive organized by this community in Meriden and by far the most successful. Many volunteers and blood donors were responsible for the success of this event including the honorable Mayor, Michael Rohde of Meriden. He donated blood after a long time as part of his continued service to Meriden community. The campaign is ongoing and more members of the community plan to donate blood as part of the "Muslims for Life" campaign.
