A Muslim youth organisation has been helping with a project to plant 15,000 trees in a Woodford Green park.

Twenty-two members from the London-based Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) joined forces with charity Trees for Cities to plant the saplings  in Ray Park, Snakes Lane East, Woodford Green.

The session was part of the Trees for Cities' campaign to plant 15,000 trees over two weeks in Ray Park and establish the first and largest urban woodland of 2013.

Saqib Rasheed, local youth leader for the AMYA, said: “Events such as these help to promote good community relations and offer us a welcome opportunity to contribute positively towards this great part of London.

“The Prophet Muhammad, who was a mercy for mankind, actively encouraged the beautification and protection of the environment through planting trees.

“It is his noble example which is the inspiration behind our involvement in this fantastic initiative.''
