Several hundred men, women and children from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in the Inland Empire, Los Angeles and Orange County areas gathered at the Baitul Hameed Mosque in Chino on Sunday, March 24th to commemorate the founding of the Muslim group in 1889 in Qadian, India.
On March 23rd of that year, the Community’s founder, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad -- in obedience to a revelation from God in December 1888 -- officially began accepting people as his disciples.
To date, the avowedly peaceful and non-political Islamic group (whose motto is “Love for All – Hatred for None”) is established in more than 200 countries with a total worldwide membership in the tens of millions.
Every year on or near March 23rd, thousands of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community chapters all over the world schedule events to educate their members and the public about the claims and purpose of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad.
The four speeches given at the Sunday event in Chino detailed the life, character, teachings, mission and revelations of the Promised Messiah and Mahdi.
Ahmadi Muslims believe that this later messenger – the Imam Mahdi -- is a reflection of the spiritual light of the Holy Prophet (pbuh); a messenger completely subordinate to the Holy Prophet (pbuh) with no new Holy Law (shariah).
A college student, Mutahir Farhan, gave a brief exposition of the life of the Promised Messiah and Mahdi; and a high schooler, Faiz Ahmad, recounted the Promised Messiah’s decades-long jihad with the pen instead of the sword.
Another college student, Harris Ahmad, gave an impassioned exhortation on how the Promised Messiah’s message must be put into practice by today’s youth to combat the personal and social evils rampant in contemporary society.

Imam Shamshad Nasir, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Regional Missionary for the Southwest region reminded the audience of three things all Ahmadi Muslims should do.
First, Imam Nasir said, read the life of the Promised Messiah in order to know about and appreciate his accomplishments and the challenges he faced and overcame. Secondly, Ahmadis must read the books of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad to be educated about the beauties of the Quran and the proofs about the truth of Islam. Thirdly, Imam Shamshad exhorted the audience to assess their shortcomings, then purify and reform themselves to make a true and lasting spiritual change that reflects the mission of the Promised Messiah.
"The purification of Islam starts with each Muslim, and it is the duty of every Ahmadi to demonstrate that purification in themselves," Imam Shamshad said. "That is what will prove the truth of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad: by living the guidance in the Holy Quran and in the life and example of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)."
"That is the goal and the reward and the reason for the advent of the Promised Messiah and Imam Mahdi."
Imam Shamshad reminded that there are more than 80 books of the Promised Messiah which contain priceless treasures of insight and wisdom to equip Ahmadis to counter and defeat any and all attacks and criticisms leveled against Islam, the Holy Quran and the Holy Prophet (pbuh).
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is a dynamic, reformist and fast-growing international movement within Islam. Founded in 1889 in Qadian, India by Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (1835-1908), the Promised Messiah and Imam Mahdi, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is now established in over 200 countries with membership numbering in the tens of millions. Their motto is: “Love for All – Hatred for None.”
