"Rahmat Effendi, Bekasi Mayor, has granted the request of an Islamic hardliner group to shut down an Ahmadiyah Mosque in Bekasi, a city located some 30 kilometers away from the Indonesian Capital, Jakarta," wrote a YouTube channel that posted the video of the mosque closure on April 5th.
The Al-Misbah Mosque opened in 1999 and existed legally without causing trouble for the community, wrote “ferry putra” with the video of the mosque seizure.
However, the Islamic hardliner group, Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) - who believes Ahmadi Muslims do not have the right to exist and wish the Ahmadī Muslims would quit their worship activities altogether - saw it differently.
FPI’s wishes were fulfilled with the help of Rehmad Effendi, the Mayor of Bekasi, who granted an order for the Al-Misbah mosque seizure and dispatched several hundred public order personnel backed by a contingent of police officers to seal the mosque and expel the Ahmadi Muslim worshippers.
A video post by ‘ferry putra’ showed hundreds of police and peace offices gathered at at Al Misbah mosque to start installing metal fence sheeting around the mosque.
Dedi Murti, a Bakasi Police Officer is heard announcing to his troops on a bullhorn that the operation is the work of the Mayor and the public order agency will carry it out.
“Bekasi Police serves only as a backup, said officer Murti. “So, do not misinterpret; It is not Bekasi Police officers who will install the fence.”
"May God bless our actions,” announced Murti. “Let’s begin with a prayer.”
And, on command, ‘Start praying,’ issued by officer Murti, the police troops prayed before starting the attack on the Ahmadiyya Al Misbah mosque.
The public order personnel installing the noisy fence were encircled by the regiment of police officers for their protection during the foul act.
The Islamic Defenders Front, a known radical Indonesian Islamist group is known for their ties with Al Qaieda and Bin Laden.
PFI has repeated launched attacks against minorities in Indonesia including Ahmadis, Shias, and Christian.
