Volunteers travelled from as far afield as Scunthorpe and Sheffield to help plant thousands of trees in Dewsbury Country Park.
The Yorkshire branch of Muslim youth organisation Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya led the event as part of its national programme to plan more than 30,000 trees a year.
Around 50 men aged between 15 and 40 braved rain to plant 2,800 trees on the former landfill site between Ravensthorpe, Dewsbury Moor and Heckmondwike.
The event began at the Greenwood Centre in Ravensthorpe where a few words on the importance of tree planting in Islam were shared with the volunteers.
On the same day Leeds-based Conservation Volunteers Hollybush planted trees in the woodland.
And families were invited to join parades from the Greenwood Centre and Dewsbury Moor and Scout Hill Children’s Centre before planting trees, trying creative activities and sitting round a campfire.
