UK: Ahmadiyya Muslim community opens new Wimbledon office space

A Muslim community in Merton are delighted with a new warehouse and offices inaugurated by a guest of honour.

A newly built extension at Tahir House in Deer Park Road, Wimbledon, was launched by the head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community who took time out of his busy schedule to visit the site.

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad chaired a short ceremony beginning with recitation of the Holy Quran and had a tour of the site, which was followed by a brief report given by the chairman of Al-Shirkatul Islamiyyah, Abdul Baqi Arshad.

Community spokesman Abid Khan said: "It was a really nice day.

"Everyone really enjoyed it.

"It was an honour for members to have Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad visit."

Mr Khan stated the new warehouse and offices measuring 18,100 sq ft were good news for members, who travelled from all over London and Surrey to attend the event on Sunday, February 16.

Tahir House is home to 20 central departments of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community and the space will be used as office facilities for the community in their day-to-day work, including producing community magazines.

The three-storey building was purchased in 2002 by the group to house various central offices.

It is also home to the Makhzan-e-Tasaweer photo exhibition which charts key events in the history of the community.

More than 150 people attended the inauguration.
