Canada: Ahmadiyya Muslim Women Association of Calgary NW observe International Women's Day

A local chapter of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Women Association (AMWA), Lajna Imā’Illah, of Calgary NW organized its 3rd Annual International Women's Day Interfaith Seminar and Exhibition on Saturday March 8, 2014 at local Multiplex Cardel Place.

The event entitled "Faith & Feminism: Does Religion Oppress Women?" was attended by representatives from Hinduism, Christianity, Judaism and Islam where their respective speakers gave their perspectives.

The speakers tackled the questions pertaining to the "Status of Women" and "what rights are granted to women in different religions according to their scriptures and core teachings."

The presentations were followed by a Q&A session. Several people expressed their thanks for being given a chance to learn and clear misconceptions about different faith.

Federal Minister of State Hon. Michelle Rempel and Associate Minister (Alberta) Hon. Teresa Woo Paw participated in the seminar and gave their remarks.

Minister Rempel shared her visit to the event through twitter showing her hands decorated with henna.

Alberta Minister Hon. Teresa Woo Paw shared a picture of the event to her twitter followers appreciating the diversity being promoted at the event.

There were light refreshments served before the seminar for all guests. There seminar was attended by nearly 90 women.


IWD Exhibition

The exhibition started at 10:00 am in the busy main lobby of Cardel place, in which several outside women's organizations also participated.

Calgary Immigrant Women's Association (CIWA), Women In Need Society (WINS), and Calgary Public Library setup their information and display stalls. AMWA had their informative stalls and displays to promote awareness on the Status of Women in Islam.

The color theme of the event was coordinated with International Women's Day and was kept purple and black.

Arrangements were also made to entertain the guests with free Henna and Nail Art application. Nearly 60 guests got their hands decorated with henna or nail art by the volunteers.

More than 150 people stopped by the displays and asked questions.

Two Week Long Exhibition at Calgary Public Library

A special exhibition was organized at the Calgary Public Library introducing Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamā’at and its community initiatives from Feb 22, 2014 to March 9, 2014. The displays included;

    Pictures of the Promised Messiah (as) and the Khulafā'
    Books on the teachings of Islam
    Brochures on peaceful teachings of Islam
    Endeavors of Humanity First
    Pictures of Canadian PM at the inauguration of Baitun Nur and
    Various other community activities

    Event was advertised on www.Islamevent.ca website.
