A group of independent Ahmadi and non Ahmadi Pakistani lawyers and students are organizing a seminar entitled: "Does legislature have the legal and moral authority to pass judgment on matters of personal faith?"
The first of its kind, this by-invitation-only event is scheduled for 5:00 PM on the 21st of March, 2014 in Karachi.
Mr. Fakhrudin G. Ebrahim, one of Pakistan's prominent lawyers will be the keynote speaker at the seminar and, the organizers say, the audience will benefit from his experiences with challenges to anti-Ahmadi laws before the Supreme Court in 1992.
Mr. Ebrahim, a retired Associate Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, and Senior Advocate Supreme Court, is known as a peace and social activist.
The organizing group is working to build consensus for repeal of the 2nd Amendment to Pakistan's Constitution, that was passed in 1974, declaring the Ahmadis to be non-Muslims.
The organizers say "Repeal Second Amendment" is an independent initiative "with no formal links to any religious, political or other organisation."
The founding members, Nasar Ahmad and AQM Haider, are two UK qualified barristers-at-law who practice as corporate lawyers and the organization is in the process of being formally setup as an entity to be registered in Pakistan.
To register for the seminar, receive a formal invitation, and venue information, contact "Repeal Second Amendment" via email: repeal2ndamendmentpakistan@gmail.com
