MEMBERS of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community are hoping to raise $8000 for this year’s Red Cross Appeal in Cranbourne and surrounds.
The group’s Aziz Bhatti said about 200 community members would rattle tins for the appeal, determined to beat last year’s effort of more than $7000.
“People of all ages and from all walks of life will be part of our effort,” Mr Bhatti said. “We have a lot of teenage students through to people who have retired helping us — and women, they’re the best collectors of all.”
Mr Bhatti said the group was a strong supporter of human rights and freedom of religious choice for all.
“We put a lot of effort into community work. With Red Cross, we’re both collectors and blood donors,” he said.
“We see it as an important part of our role to contribute to and be a helpful part of the communities where we live.”
