To: Editors, Luton on Sunday:
I am extremely disappointed by the low journalism ethics shown by your newspaper in an apologetic manner and deciding to bow before the pressure of local Muslims against the peace loving Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
Firstly I could not believe when I was reading "A Statement from Luton on Sunday" - but then I started to understand the amount of pressure LOS editors might have faced (seeing the meeting picture with local Muslim group it is completely understandable).
But do you live in Pakistan? or Indonesia? or Bangladesh? or Saudi Arabia? or Iran? or Afghanistan? or Malaysia? or Turkmenistan? or Tajikistan? ..... the list of countries goes on and on where Ahmadiyya Muslims are facing severe persecution and death threats and might too when you publish such advertisements on Ahmadiyya Muslims in those countries. But you guys live in Great Britain...don't you...and this Great country is a secular country were everyone has a freedom to practice their religion the way they want to.
Is there any definition of who is a Muslim? and who is NOT? there are more than 74 sects in Islam in today's world and everyone disagrees to everyone on some grounds...but does that mean that they start threatening/pressurizing the newspapers who publish some sect's payed advertisements??
A letter published in your newspaper by PFPF (everyone knows what this organization is affiliated with and what's their role in JI of Pakistan and Taliban) representative says Ahmadis are not Muslims or not a part of Islam as they believe in another Prophet after the Holy Prophet of Islam (peace be upon him). But he did not tell you that all the Muslims are also waiting for the Jesus Christ to return (who was also a prophet...wasn't he? at least in Islamic theology). And this same point was discussed in a recent BBC Radio's talk show where the Mullah did not answer any of Ahmadiyya member's question on if the Jesus was a prophet? and if he has to come again then there is no difference in yours and mine expectations but the difference is only in identification. Mainstream Muslims believe that Jesus will come in later days and Ahmadiyya Muslims believe that Mirza Ghulam Ahmad has come in the form of Jesus. I expect a through investigations and a detailed a comprehensive research done by your newspaper and expect a loud and clear message in support of YOUR basic journalism rights that you as a business have every right to publish that is acceptable and does not harm anyone's emotions under the British law. But if someone wants to be over-sensitive and claims that your advertisement is causing an emotional damage to him/her then you must do some research before you put a formal "Statement".
