Dear Editor: The bombing of the Boston Marathon last year was a tragedy. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev stated that the bombings were done to protect Islam from the United States. However, Islam unequivocally rejects the taking of innocent lives. The Quran states: “Whosoever killed a person … it shall be as if killed all mankind.” (5:33)

The strength of the Boston area community shined through after the bombing as a moving example of unwavering will and heart. Nobody will ever forget the victims or the strength that the community displayed after the barbaric attack.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community hopes and prays for the safety of this year's participants and spectators.
