Gambia: Humanity First Donates Medical Items to EFSTH


Dr. Azhar Saleem, the general practitioner team leader, informed the gathering that the gesture is part of the charity's activities that they give out to so many countries.

Humanity First International recently donated medical items to the Edwards Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH), at a ceremony held at the Emergency Unit conference hall in Banjul.

The donated items included antibiotic, cardiac drugs, pain relief, trauma dressing and nebulisers all for the emergency unit care.

Humanity First was established over 20 years ago in UK, but it now has branches all around the world. It has numerous relief project in different areas and some of them included provision of accessible clean drinking water, health, education, and social amenities, among others.

The chief medical director at the EFSTH, Dr. Ahmmar Al-Jaafari , who received the donated items, expressed delight at Humanity First's gesture, saying this is not the first time the charity is presenting donation to the hospital. "The donated materials are very much appreciated and it will ease service delivery in any ways in the hospital," he noted, as he encouraged the charity to continue the support they are doing. He assured them that the donated materials would be put into good use.

For his part, Dr. Azhar Saleem, the general practitioner team leader, informed the gathering that the gesture is part of the charity's activities that they give out to so many countries. He added that they also offer free training on trauma and emergency care to over 30 nurses and staff members of the Hospital.

He reiterated that his organisation will work together with the hospital to improve service delivery in different units within the hospital, by providing intensive training for the nurses and doctors and also supporting medical equipment.

For his part, Abubacarr Sowe, the director of medical at the organisation also spoke at length on the importance of the donated materials, especially at the emergency unit of the hospital. The donation is part of charity relief service that they are rendering, not only in TGambia but also throughout the world. He assured them of his organisation's commitment in collaborating with the hospital to improve access to quality service delivery in the country.
