FORT WORTH — Mothers will come together Saturday to learn about how to raise healthy children who can serve as future role models during a free symposium titled “Raising Tomorrow’s Leaders — Mind, Body & Spirit.”
The sessions are organized by Ahmadiyya Muslim Community group, which seeks to help mothers of all backgrounds on a number of fronts, including health and education. The local group is part of the national organization, by the same name.
“We are trying to promote new avenues to enrich our children,” said Angelina Tucker, a pharmacist and the group’s Tabligh Secretary. Tabligh means outreach in Arabic, Tucker said.
The event, open to mothers, is the first in this area and will be 2-4 p.m. at the Southwest Community Center, 6300 Welch Ave., Fort Worth. Organizers expect 75-100 participants.
The first part of the free symposium includes speakers who will discuss two main topics, “The Healthy Child & Immunizations” and “Diet and Physical Fitness in Children.”
Tucker said the event will also include speakers addressing the Islamic, Christian and Jewish perspective on raising children. Later, participants can visit booth displays to get more information and ask questions.
“Our sole agenda in this symposium is to unite all women of different races, religions, creeds under the one banner of a brighter future for our children, to promote new avenues to enrich the lives of our children so we may begin to weave at the very beginning a fabric of society that is healthy, educated and benevolent, to produce great leaders and great citizens,” Tucker said.
