Belonging to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, religious discrimination forced me out of my country of Pakistan, and I made the U.S. my second home.
As an immigrant who suffered religious discrimination, it is highly disturbing for me to see what is happening in the city of Ferguson, Mo., involving racial prejudice.
The incident is still under investigation but, apparently, inappropriate use of force and racial tensions seem to be behind the entire disturbance.
Time will eventually heal the wounds inflicted on the victim's family and the city of Ferguson, but practical steps should be taken at the community and social level to avoid this in the future. Community leaders should come forward and play their roles to ease tensions rather than some who have chosen to help escalate them.
The citizens should continue to be respectful of the law, and law enforcement should refrain from disproportionate force that will only complicate the situation further.
