Aug 10, Colombo: A group of cabinet Ministers of Sri Lanka have taken an initiative to form a common front to face the threats from the militant Buddhist organization Bodu Bala Sena (BBS), a Sri Lankan news website linked to Minister Wimal Weerawansa reported.
Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Dr. Rajitha Senaratne who was subjected to a scathing attack by the BBS secretary Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thero has reportedly taken the lead to form the common front.
Minister Senaratne has already sent a letter of demand to Gnanasara Thero seeking damage of Rs. one billion for defamation.
The Minister has vowed to sue the Buddhist monk while the latter has vowed not to "pay a cent".
Ministers Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Dilan Perera, Rauf Hakeem, Rishad Bathiyutheen and S.B. Dissanayake who were victims of hate speeches of the extremist monk Gnanasara Thero are also expected to join the front.
