This year the monsoon rains have over flooded the rivers Sutlej, Chenab and Ravi causing massive flooding in Pakistan and parts of India including Kashmir Valley. Most of the year both India and Pakistan have little rain but these monsoon floods bring death and destruction in their wake. Experts are suggesting that India and Pakistan need to build reservoirs and more dams to avert these disasters.
According to experts much of the water in Pakistan’s Punjab has come from Indian Himalayas where there has been even more rain. Experts on water issues in Pakistan are suggesting that the Government build more dams to control and store water.
Villages in the Punjab of Pakistan have been hit worst as people have lost their lives, their cattle’s and place they called home. According to BBC reports as of September 9 the death toll in India and Pakistan has climbed to 375 as rescue efforts continue.
In India administrated Kashmir many people are stranded in remote areas and around 175 people has been killed. Large parts of the state capital Srinagar remain underwater as the Indian army is trying to rescue as many people as they can and drop relief supplies.
In Pakistan the worst hit area is the province of Punjab while Pakistan’s military says it still evacuating and air dropping food in worst hit areas of the flood.
At this time of dire need the Ahmadhyiaa Muslim community is serving the flood affected people in Rabwah and Punjab as well as working along Humanity First which is an International Relief organization. It is ironic that the Ahmadyyia community has been targeted by extreme elements in Pakistan on the basis of religious beliefs and has faced state based persecution, yet they continue in their efforts to bring relief to their compatriots. Mr.Saleemuddin, an Ahmadyyia Community spokesperson related that "it is an Ahmadi tradition to come forward and help humanity at the time of natural disasters, earthquakes and epidemics."
The flood has also affected the town of Rabwah where relief camp has been set up and according to the spokesperson of the Ahmadyyia community more than thirty two thousand people have been provided food and twelve hundred rescued and provided medical aid by the Ahmadiyya Relief Camp volunteers. Meanwhile the international organization is working tirelessly to provide relief and support to flood victims in Pakistan. Over 20 million people are affected by this devastation. Humanity First is continuing to provide aid to the victims through urgent air shipments and on ground via trucks with the help of National Commission for Human development ( NCHD).
Medical teams continue to hold camps to treat infections and illnesses .Humanity First in Pakistan is now establishing a field medical hospital. According to the latest estimates by Humanity First 2.3 million people are affected, over half a million people are displaced, and nearly 2 million acres of crops are lost.
