CHAMBERSBURG-- Two speakers will address the topic “The True Islamic State: What ISIS, the Taliban, Al-Qaida and Boko Haram Got All Wrong” on Thursday, Nov. 6, at Wilson College. The presentation, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 4 p.m. in Laird Hall’s Patterson Lounge.

Speakers Akram Khalid and Maidah Khalid-Janney will discuss how the beliefs of the Muslim faith differ from the ideology espoused by terror organizations such as ISIS (the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria), Al-Qaida and Boko Haram in Nigeria.

Khalid is an Islamic scholar and former president of Hadee Mosque in Harrisburg who is currently president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Central Pennsylvania. He is also active in an organization called Muslims for Peace.

Janney, who has a master’s degree in psychology from Shippensburg University, is a doctoral candidate in psychology at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, where she is completing a dissertation on Muslim American outreach programs and intimate partner violence. She has worked in a variety of roles with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community organization and is a member of the Ahmadi Women Science Association.

The lecture is sponsored by Wilson’s Office of the Chaplain.
