A new campaign aims to guard against youth radicalization and the extremist influence of ISIS in the wake of the recent murders of two Canadian soldiers.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at, a liberal sect of Islam, has launched STOPTHECRISIS in the hopes of raising awareness about the issue.

STOPTHECRISIS also aims to prevent radicalization of youth here in Canada before it begins.

"We don't think it is a crisis in Canada yet, but it has potential of becoming a crisis," said Ottawa Imam Imtiaz Ahmed. "Therefore we need to act fast. We need to act and work together and stop it from becoming a crisis.

He said they want to educate youth about the teachings of Islam and how they can become productive members of society.

"What we need to do is we need to start educating our youth and tell them different ways and means where they can learn the faith properly and put it into practice and how they can become influential and beneficial persons or individuals for the society," said Ahmed.

He said he wants to encourage youth to read over the holy scriptures.

"We don't find a single example of such acts, which are committed are committed by groups such as ISIL and all those terrorist groups that have the same ideologies," he said. "My main message would be to go back and start reading their scriptures and if sometime in the future somebody comes up to them and tells them to carry out such acts, they can tell them 'don't tell me this. This is has nothing to do with the teaching of Islam, this has nothing to do with what the Qur'an says about peace and justice.'"

The campaign includes a number of events across the country, including one being held at the Alumni Auditorium in the University Centre at the University of Ottawa on November 27th.

Doors open at 6 p.m.
