Lahore: In yet another nerve shattering incident, a policeman axed Shiite Muslim detainee for allegedly making derogatory remarks about the companions of prophet Muhammad (P.BU.H), Pakistan Tribune reported on Thursday. Most recent incident of extra judicial killing over blasphemy took place in Gujranwala only two days after frenzied mob burnt a Christian couple alive in a brick kiln over similar charges in district Kasur of Punjab.
Victim Tufail Haider, a 50-year-old from the minority Shiite sect of Islam, was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly making pejorative remarks against the companions of the Prophet Mohammed (P.B.U.H) and was detained at Civil Lines police station of the city.
Tufail allegedly continued speaking derogatory remarks towards holy personalities and hurled abuses at policemen which infuriated assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Faraz Naveed, 36, who took an axe to kill him inside the lockup.
“Tufail was kept in the lock-up but he continued uttering derogatory remarks and hurled abuse at policemen. He looked like a Malang (wandering preacher) and seemed mentally imbalanced,” duty officer Ali Raza told AFP.
Naveed has been arrested and legal proceedings have been initiated against him, he further added.

With each passing day, minorities are becoming more and more vulnerable to religious extremism. Shiite Muslims are facing a genocide like situation in the country and nearly 1,000 of them have been killed during past two years.
A Christian bonded laborer and his pregnant wife were beaten and burnt alive in brick kiln by charged mob on Tuesday for alleged desecration of pages from the Holy Quran. The incident received widespread condemnation from all over the World.
Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif also called killing of Christian couple an unacceptable and intolerable crime.
