‘We stand shoulder-to-shoulder with all those who oppose extremism and promote peace and humanity’
Dr Habib Akram, President, Leicester Ahmadiyya Community

The head of a Muslim group in Leicester has urged people from all faiths and none to stand united against those seeking to cause division by promoting hatred and through extremism and violence.

Dr Habib Akram, President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Leicester, echoed the call of the Caliph of the community to stop militant groups from perpetrating evil.

Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the global leader of the Ahmadiyya Community, has recently said of ISIS:
"The actions of this terrorist group are not only impacting Muslim countries, but also countries in Europe and further afield are being affected by its brutalities. We see a disturbing number of Muslim Youth from Europe and other parts of the world who have somehow come to believe that ISIS represents a true picture of Islam and support their ideology. For these reasons they have resolved to help and even fight for them.
"For any peaceful Muslim who understands his faith this is a cause of great sorrow and despair.”

At a peace conference to be held on Saturday 22 December at Beaumont Leys School, Hindus, Sikhs, Muslims, Christians and Jews amongst others will hear about the true peaceful message of Islam and of the example the Prophet Muhammad in promoting peace and fraternity.

Dr Habib Akram,  President Ahmadiyya Muslim Community  Leicester said:
“The world is currently witness to barbaric acts of inhumanity that have sent shockwaves around the world. A dark cloud of extremism has appeared in whichever direction we look.
“Our revulsion is compounded by the fact that this evil is perpetrated under the name of faith.
“The theme of our peace conference is The Prophet Muhammad's promotion of peace in society and indeed we will shed light on his treatment and teachings towards non Muslims.
“The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, under the guidance of our Khalifa, His Holiness Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, stands united with all who reject extremism and will continue to counter hatred with prayers and work to uphold the true peaceful message of Islam.
“His Holiness has provided a compelling analysis of how the actions of ISIS are totally contrary to Islam. The life of the Holy Prophet of Islam and everything he stood for is in stark contrast to what ISIS practices.
“His Holiness made it abundantly clear that a concerted effort needs to be made by all parties to stop the supply lines of ISIS so that its network of terror ends swiftly.
“In a year that we remember the fallen of the First World War we hope that this message of peace reaches others and that we rally together for the good of humanity. Islam means peace – those who practise otherwise pander to political agendas which have nothing to do with any religion.”

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is one of the oldest Islamic groups in Britain who built the first purpose built mosque in London which also served as a shelter during the last war.
