USA: Visiting Islamic scholar says ISIS perverts Islam


More than 100 people, including about 70 UCI students, attended the Oct. 30 lecture, titled "ISIS or Islam?" The Ahmadiyya Muslim Student Assn. organized the event. ISIS is an acronym for Islamic State.

Islamic scholar Mujeeb-ur-Rahman denounced the teachings of a radical faction of Islam during a recent lecture at UC Irvine.

More than 100 people, including about 70 UCI students, attended the Oct. 30 lecture, titled "ISIS or Islam?" The Ahmadiyya Muslim Student Assn. organized the event. ISIS is an acronym for Islamic State.

Rahman, a senior advocate of Pakistan's Supreme Court, discussed how ISIS' "nefarious actions pervert" some of Islam's fundamental teachings, including jihad, governance and minority rights, said Saima Sheikh, a media associate with Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA.
