Ahmadiyya Official Reaction: Aamir Liaquat Hussain airs anti-Ahmadiyya hate speech

It is hoped that the Pakistani media regulatory body (PEMRA) takes notice of the aforementioned programme and that those responsible are held to account.

Pakistan national television channel broadcasts inflammatory and false statements made during 'Subah Pakistan’ programme on 22 December 2014.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community condemns a recent edition of the programme, ‘Subah Pakistan’, broadcast in Pakistan on GEO Television on 22 December 2014, hosted by Aamir Liaquat Hussain, in which so-called religious scholars made completely false allegations about the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.

In what can only be described as ‘hate-speech’, the language used was both inflammatory and defamatory and clearly designed to incite religious hatred against Ahmadi Muslims living in Pakistan and further afield.

In 2008, a similar programme broadcast by GEO TV and also hosted by Amir Liaqat Hussein described Ahmadi Muslims as ‘Wajibul Qatl’ – meaning that it was a ‘duty’ of Muslims to murder them. Following the broadcast of that programme 2 well-known Ahmadi Muslim leaders were brutally martyred within two days.

In the current programme that aired on 22 December, Ahmadi Muslims are described as “enemies of Islam” and “enemies of Pakistan”. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is described as a “common enemy” for all Pakistanis. Pakistanis are urged to put aside all their religious differences and unite together in opposition against the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.

It is further alleged that, God forbid, Ahmadi Muslims blaspheme and insult the blessed character of the Founder of Islam, the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).

It is also claimed that Ahmadi Muslims are involved in various ‘plots’ against Pakistan and that they are to blame for the terrorism that is currently prevalent in the country. An attempt is even made to link the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community to the Peshawar school attack of 16 December - even though a well-known terrorist organisation has openly and proudly claimed to have conducted that heinous attack on innocent schoolchildren.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community categorically rejects all of these allegations as entirely baseless and without any foundation whatsoever. They have been made only to provoke and incited hatred against Ahmadi Muslims.

The truth is that for many decades Ahmadi Muslims have been the victims of sustained persecution in Pakistan – wherein hundreds of its members have been murdered; they have been declared as ‘non-Muslims’; they have suffered all forms of social and educational discrimination and have had their basic religious and civic freedoms taken away.

Despite all of this, every single Ahmadi Muslim has shown only loyalty to the State of Pakistan and sought to help its people and the society. Ahmadi Muslims are law-abiding citizens who seek only the progress of their nation.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is a peaceful and tolerant religious sect of Islam that has no political ambitions or objectives.

In spite of the persecution it faces, the Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad has repeatedly counselled Ahmadi Muslims to pray for Pakistan and for its people.

Following the Peshawar school attack, His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:
"We Ahmadi Muslims sympathise and love humanity and so wherever mankind suffers in any way it leaves us grieved and pained. In this instance those killed were our fellow Muslim brothers and our countrymen and so our grief is even more. Our hearts are filled with love and compassion for them."

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community asks the international community and media to take notice of the continued persecution of Ahmadi Muslims in Pakistan. In particular it is hoped that the Pakistani media regulatory body (PEMRA) takes notice of the aforementioned programme and that those responsible are held to account.

It is further hoped that all people and organisations that hold dear values of freedom of religion and who oppose all forms of hate-speech and religious incitement condemn the GEO programme of 22 December.  @AhmadiyyatIslam
