Citing various verses of the Holy Quran, Maolana Chowdhury said that Islam teaches peace, tolerance and sympathy to mankind irrespective of race, cast and religion. “If we think Bangladesh is far away from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Middle-East or from Africa, then it would be foolishness as such militants are not restricted to any land boundary or ethnic community…….so, public awareness is very much essential and all should be vigilant against it.”

A panel discussion was moderated by Prof. Nazmul Haq and participated by Dr. Salim Jahangir, Sr. Fellow, Finis Academy, Finland, Prof. Syed M. Hashemi of BRAC University, Dr. Najma Khan Majlish of Dhaka University, Father Tapan D' Rozario, Dhaka University, Mr. Julfikar Ali Manik, Senior Journalist, The Dhaka Tribune and Prof. Meer Mubashsher Ali, Naib National Amir, AMJB.

Quader, Human Rights Activist Mr. Kajal Devnath and former Ambassador of Bangladesh to UN & Retd. Additional Foreign Secretary Mr. Mohiuddin Ahmed.

The speakers expressed their concern over the recent rise of militancy in various countries in the name of Islam and emphasized on collective effort to eradicate poverty, illiteracy and stop using of Islam for narrow political motives. They also expressed their concern over the recent killing of 141 people at a school in Peshawar, Pakistan where mostly were innocent children.

In his closing remarks, Janab Mobasher ur Rahman, National Amir, AMJB urged  Muslims to pursue spiritual development so that militancy could not get a foot hold in the country.

Various national daily newspapers and nine television channels gave coverage of the program.
