CHINIOT: Some clerics led by a ruling party MPA have postponed their Friday’s protest plan against the Ahmadia community in Chenabnagar town.

The clerics from Chiniot and Sargodha, headed by MPA Maulana Ilyas Chinioti, met the district administration where they agreed to defer their protest plan for two weeks. The clerics had some concerns regarding the implementation of the Anti-Qadianiat Ordinance 1984.

On the other hand, the Ahamdia Jamaat has written letters to the federal and provincial governments contending that Chenabnagar was a peaceful town but some clerics were inciting people to violence. It said that in the wake of Peshawar incident, there was a threat to law and order, and sought official help.

Chiniot District Police Officer Abdul Qadir Qamar said the district police were aware of the situation and no one would be allowed to hold gatherings without the permission of the district government.
