As an Ahmadi Muslim, I not only condemn such acts of extremism, but I also call on the Pakistani government to take action.

Re: “Taliban vows to kill children after hangings,” Dec. 20.

The recent tragedy in Peshawar is a result of Pakistan’s lack of prioritizing religious freedom, failure in protecting the rights of minorities, and their passive efforts in mitigating violent surges of terror by extremist groups like the Taliban. As an Ahmadi Muslim, I not only condemn such acts of extremism, but I also call on the Pakistani government to take action.

As for the Taliban, these militants have reached a point where no religion can validate their actions, let alone Islam. They have formed a cult and a new ideology which justifies killing innocent children, and deciding who receives the right to an education. Such teachings have no basis in Islam, and it is clear that the Taliban’s motives are not to preach religion, but rather to spread their beliefs by force. However, as the late Mirza Tahir Ahmad — former leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community — said, “Swords can win territories, but not hearts, forces can bend heads, but not minds.” They will definitely not win our hearts.
