Volunteers from the Huddersfield Chapter of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) teamed up with care worker Clare Harwood to visit Children’s ward at Calderdale Royal Infirmary Hospital delivering gifts to spread seasonal joy after seeing her appeal for help.
Clare Harwood, touched by a radio station’s Christmas appeal for presents for needy children launched an appeal of her own on Facebook – and amassed 91 presents in just four days.
Kamal Aftab Regional Youth leader for Yorkshire said: “As Muslims we are encouraged to partake in charity and we are reminded of our social responsibility to help our local communities, especially those challenged by sickness. When local volunteer Idris Yousaf saw Clare Harwood's appeal for helpers to distribute gifts, I was really really touched with this, as this was in line with AMYA’s national ‘Muslims for Humanity’ campaign in which our volunteers have been serving local communities for decades, especially the vulnerable and sick over the winter."
Kamal Aftab added "Clare has done a brilliant job in collecting so many presents at such short notice."
Clare Harwood said " The response from public has been overwhelming. I was extremely touched by the warm response I got from the children and staff who do a great job. Seeing the children smile made it all worthwhile. I hope we can do this again next year and I am grateful to AMYA for their help."
