Muslims all around the world are shocked, disgusted and deeply hurt with the attack on Charlie Hebdo office which left 12 dead and several  injured. It is even more painful when this attack is done in the name of Prophet Muhammad and Islam.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community all over the world has categorically condemned this horrific act of violence. Each and every one of us is in pain due to this atrocity. We offer our sincere condolences to the families of the victims. Our prayers and thoughts are with them.

Islam teaches tolerance, love for others, respect, mutual understanding and kindness. We stand united against these terrorists who are using the name of Islam to brainwash young Muslims and radicalize them to support their political agendas. It is a political power struggle and has nothing to do with the core principles of Islam.

In fact, the word Islam itself is derived from the root word “salima”, which means peace. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) gave Muslims a very clear message about being peaceful by saying that a person is not a believer if other people are not safe from his hands and tongue. So how is it even possible that those who claim to follow him can commit such atrocities in his name or in the name of Islam.

The worldwide head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad (aba), who has a following in tens of millions in 206 countries of the world has been working tirelessly against this horrific ideology of violence in the name of Islam. In a Peace Symposium held in London he said, “…I will, God willing, always continue to carry out my task and responsibilities of promoting peace, tolerance, justice and compassion to the corners of the world…”

He also spoke against the radicalisation of Muslims in different parts of the world and said, “A global strategy is required to stop radicalisation.” Thus, it is the responsibility of each and every one of us to promote peace, tolerance and mutual understanding.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Greece has taken a practical step in condemning these acts of violence and initiated a Peace Campaign to inform the people especially Muslims about the peaceful teachings of all religions including Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism and Hinduism. The Campaign will start on 12th of January 2015.
