The worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community issued a statement on its press website today, categorically condemning the attack against a Shia mosque in Shikarpur, Pakistan, where dozens of innocent Pakistanis were killed in Friday's bomb blast.

Shikarpur is a small city and the capital of Shikarpur District in the Sindh province.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and all those affected by this evil and outrageous attack," the statement read. "We would like to offer our heartfelt sympathies and condolences to all those who have been left bereaved."

"The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community stands ready to help those in need in any way necessary," the statement further read.

According to media reports, the local police said at least 60 people have been killed and the death toll is expected to rise.

Sunni militants linked to the Pakistani Taliban claimed they carried out the attack, BBC News has reported.

There has been a marked rise in sectarian violence in Pakistan and Sunni militant groups have continuously targeted the Shia and Ahmadi minority groups.

The Jundallah militant group, which claimed that they had carried out the attack, has been linked to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The group had announced allegiance to Islamic State (IS) last year.
