Pakistan said on Thursday that it was considering a request from Saudi Arabia to participate in the Saudi-led military operation against Houthi rebels in Yemen (WSJ, Dawn).
According to a report from the official Saudi news agency, SPA, Pakistan was among five Muslim countries that “declared their willingness to participate” in the offensive.
While the Pakistani Foreign Ministry confirmed that they had received a request from Saudi Arabia, they did not provide details about what, if any, support Pakistan would provide.
“The matter is being examined. That’s all I have to say at the moment,” Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said on Thursday.

In Pakistan, of course, some support Yemen and some want to fight for Saudi Arabia! But no one seems to have mentioned fact-finding and efforts to smooth out the differences, the true Islamic approach to quell strife between two warring factions.
ReplyDeleteBut if Pakistanis were ever interested in getting things in proper order, Pakistan itself wouldn't be in such a mess. They, instead, might start some Shia-Sunni riots to show their love of Islam, which means peace.
I believe that instead of providing fuel to the proxy wars the Ummah must try to get Iran and Saudi Arabia together to talk things over.
Saudi Arabia is important to all Muslims, but not the Saudi Royals and their very rigid views on who is a Muslim and who is not. The Ummah should, as a whole, indicate that it doesn't care if there's Shia influence in Arabia or Sunni, it wants peace and decent conditions for the pilgrims. After all Turks once controlled what is Saudi Arabia today and before that Shias had influence there via Baghdad. So, it wouldn't kill us if Iran has more influence in the Arab peninsula or in other Arab/Muslim countries.
