30-year-old youth leader is shot at workplace

In the latest targeted killing of the marginalised Ahmadiyya Muslim community, in Pakistan, a 30-year-old youth leader has been murdered

Nauman Najam, was shot dead in the Malir area of Karachi. The gunmen entered the computer hardware store owned by Noman Najam in the evening of 21 March and opened fire at him. He received five gunshot wounds and died on his way to hospital.

Condemning the murder and the continuing targeting of Ahmadis in Pakistan, Rafiq Hayat, President Ahmadiyya Muslim Community UK, said:
"This atrocity is the reality of religious apartheid in Pakistan where pernicious laws consign Ahmadis to an inferior status and liable to murderous attacks with impunity.
"Ahmadiyya Muslims are routinely targeted by extremists who use the anti-Ahmadi laws to justify their acts.
"The world continues to fight extremism yet it is part and parcel of everyday life of Pakistan that innocent people are murdered because of their faith.
"Extremists openly incite hatred with impunity as a result of which Ahmadis, Shias, Christians and people of other faiths are frequently attacked."

Last year an American cardiologist was murdered in Pakistan because he belonged to the Ahmadiyya sect of Islam whose ethos is Love for All, Hatred for None.

More than 245 Ahmadis have been murdered since the anti-Ahmadi laws were introduced in 1984.
