BUFFALO, NY- In the wake of terror caused by the Islamic State group, a local Muslim group is working to spread what they call "The true message of Islam".

The Buffalo chapter of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community held and event over the weekend to teach people that Islam goes beyond the perceptions created by the Islamic State.

"We feel that we have to take back the Muslim narrative and the fact that Islam is a religion of peace. It's always been a religion of peace and unfortunately the recent events have shown otherwise and the media is portraying it as such. So people ask where the moderate Muslim voices are, and here we are," Azam Akram of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community said.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has held more than two dozen events across the U.S., hoping to spread their message.
