CHINO: Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Southern California have been advised to turn to God and beseech Him for rain during the continuing drought conditions in the Western United States.

According to an announcement made at Chino's Baitul Hameed Mosque during the Friday Prayers earlier today, Jum'a Imam, Anwer Mehmood Khan said the community will offer special prayers for rain - known a Salatul Istisqa - on Sunday, May 3rd, 2015.

Imam asked the entire congregation to come to the mosque with their families to join in the prayers which will be offered collectively after the Zuhr (midday) prayers.

Anwer Khan related that the local president of the Ahmadiyya community from LA area was in London recently and during his meeting with Khalifa of Islam and the head of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hazrat (His Holiness) Mirza Masroor Ahmad, he brought Hazrat Ahmad abreast of the debilitating drought conditions in California and sought His Holiness' prayers for the rain and end to the drought that has brought the state official to their knees in efforts to provide water for the citizens.

His Holiness promised to pray for the rainfall and asked that the local Ahmadi Muslim communities also make special arrangements for communal Salatul Istisqa or prayers for rain.

According to the many Hadith - sayings of the Holy Founder of Islam, the Prophet Muhammad, there were many instance where the Prophet of Islam directed believers to come together for communal prayers in times of drought.

The history records many miraculous rainfalls that, the faithful say, can be linked to offering of Salatul Istisqa.

In addition the five daily obligatory prayers in Islam, there are several other prayers also which are offered communally. Apart from Salatul Istisqa, other prayers include Salatul Eid-al Fitr, the prayers offered to commemorate the end of the blessed month of Ramdhan; Salatul Eid-al Adha, offered to commemorate the sacrifices of the prophet Abraham; Salatul Kasoof, performed on the occasion of solar and lunar eclipses; and Salatul Janaza, the funeral prayers offered for a deceased before the burial.

During the occurrence of the recent solar eclipse, the members of the Ahmadi Muslim community in many parts of the world organized Salatul Kasoof.

On Friday, March 20, 2015, His Holiness Ahmad also led the Eclipse Prayer at the Fazl Mosque in London.
