A Muslim organisation used its annual peace symposium in Halesowen to call for a united front against extremism.
Around 250 people of different faiths gathered at the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association’s Long Lane mosque on Sunday.
Civic dignitaries, politicians, faith leaders, charity workers and neighbours were among those who attended.
Several speakers spoke of the importance of co-operation amongst communities to defeat extremism and praised efforts by Ahmadi Muslims in leading the cause.
Keynote speaker, Imam Rashed, who had travelled from the London Mosque, highlighted peaceful teachings of Islam.
Local president Dr Masood Majoka said: “We are delighted that so many people from so many backgrounds turned up to show their support for a common cause. The community spirit was at its best.”
The association also donated £600 shared equally between Sandwell Women’s Aid, the Hope Centre, Halesowen, Save the Children and Action Heart.
