How dare we expect peace when we do not even have the guts to administer justice?

How can violence in Baltimore end when reckless police behavior is tolerated?
Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "A riot is the language of the unheard." I am not using this to justify the destruction of some businesses in Baltimore but only to say that the destruction of a young man's life is worse ("Under guard, Baltimore cleans up and looks ahead," April 29).
Yes, the Baltimore riots may be bad. But centuries of systematic oppression of a group of people is worse. Creating disorder is never the solution, but honestly, what can we expect as citizens in a country in which the brothers and fathers and friends and husbands of the black community are killed recklessly by the police who are then usually let off the hook? How dare we expect peace when we do not even have the guts to administer justice?
Within this vacuum of justice, there will be violence. I pray that it is filled and that the system is reformed, because until then, we will not and can not have peace.
