THE Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Nigeria has stressed the need for the leadership of the nation at all levels to ensure equity, justice and fair dealings among the populace.
The key factors, according to the organization, are necessary ingredients for the realization of the growth aspirations at federal and state levels of governance.
The Amir, Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Nigeria, Dr. Mashuud Adenrele Fasola, in a statement made available to The Guardian, said: “We humbly wish to warn that no worldly powers will be able to help us achieve progress or ward off God’s wrath if we do not seek His pleasure by checking all oppression and ensuring justice and charity to all. The pursuit of these agenda is necessary for acceptance of our prayers for peace and progress of the nation.”
The group however set out a five-point agenda for the president and state governors.
“The points are based not on any wisdom of ours but on the injunctions of God the Wise and Lord of all Creation,” it stated.
In the agenda, it enjoined the leadership to strive to eradicate hunger completely for all indigenes with Federal Government equitable support for all the states. Noting that this can only be achieved with aggressive and faithful agricultural development, it he said it would also help create employment and check migration.
Fashola said the government should endeavour to appoint only people of integrity and competence to political offices. “Those who do not seek self interest but possess the exceptional zeal, piety, and capacity to serve humanity,” he stated.
Emphasising on justice and fairplay, he said it should practices such that every Nigerian has equal opportunity and equal right in all respects, including freedom of conscience and association.
“This is without prejudice to privileges for those in positions of authority or assigned with exceptional responsibilities. We should do away completely with ‘man-know-man’ mentality before you secure employment in government establishments or admission to government educational institution or have access to public-sector medical care and other facilities.
“Allocate adequate budget to Police so that adequate number of competent officers can be recruited, trained, well equipped, and well remunerated, to ensure full security to life and property for everyone, everywhere, at all times of the day, and without any discrimination whatsoever.
“Ensure strict law enforcement to ensure equality before the law and that none is above the law so that we can effectively fight crime and corruption,” he stated.
